How the conversion works
Hourly = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)Monthly = Annual salary ÷ 12Weekly = Annual salary ÷ Weeks per yearThe hourly rate is your annual salary spread across every hour you work in a year — the hours you work each week multiplied by the number of paid weeks. Monthly pay divides the salary evenly across twelve months, and weekly pay divides it across your paid weeks. Fewer weeks per year raises the implied hourly rate for the same salary.
$52,000 a year, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks
Suppose you earn $52,000 per year, work 40 hours per week, and work 52 weeks per year. You work 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours, so the hourly rate is $52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25.00. Monthly pay is $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33, and weekly pay is $52,000 ÷ 52 = $1,000.
What this calculator assumes
- Every week is worked at the same number of hours across the year.
- All figures are gross pay, before tax or any deductions.
- Overtime, bonuses, and shift differentials are not modeled.
- Monthly pay is the annual salary divided by twelve, regardless of month length.
- Money values are rounded to the nearest cent for display.
Salary to hourly FAQ
Why does the hourly rate change with weeks?
A salary is fixed, so if you spread it across fewer working weeks each hour is worth more. Adjust weeks per year to reflect unpaid time off and see the effect.
Is this my take-home hourly rate?
No. Every result here is gross pay before income tax and other deductions. Use a paycheck or take-home calculator to estimate net pay.
